World Aquaculture Day is being celebrated for the first time in Cartagena, with a <\/span>programme<\/span> of activities including a technology transfer and business session held at the Naval and Sea Technology Centre (CTN), in which SAES took part. Eduardo Ruiz, Head of Diversification, presented SAES\u2019s 35-year <\/span>track record<\/span> in developing underwater technology and its clear focus on dual-use solutions, applicable to the protection of critical marine infrastructure such as aquaculture farms.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n

Cartagena is hosting the national celebration of World Aquaculture Day<\/strong> for the first time, following its designation in June by the Spanish Aquaculture Society. The official event took place yesterday, 27<\/span><\/span>th<\/span><\/span> November, at the Naval and Sea Technology Centre (CTN) and was supported by the Regional Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, the <\/span>Regional Development Institute of Murcia<\/span> (INFO), the FARM Association of Aquaculture Companies in the Region, and the Ricardo Fuentes Group, among others. According to CTN Director Noelia Ortega, this choice places the Region of Murcia \u201cat the forefront of innovation, sustainability and the blue economy in Spain<\/span>\u201d,<\/span> bringing together research, <\/span>industry<\/span> and public bodies in a nationally significant event.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Cartagena thus becomes a key meeting point for professionals, researchers, <\/span>businesses<\/span> and the public to explore the present and future of the so-called \u201cBlue Revolution<\/span>\u201d.<\/span> To this end, various activities have been <\/span>organised<\/span> to promote networking and knowledge-sharing, such as the technology transfer and business session in which SAES <\/strong><\/span>participated<\/span>, with a presentation by Eduardo Ruiz, Diversification<\/strong><\/span> Manager<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n

In his talk, Eduardo Ruiz<\/strong> outlined the company\u2019s 35-year history of developing underwater technology<\/strong> and its strong commitment to dual-use<\/strong> applications, offering solutions for the protection of critical marine infrastructure<\/strong>, including ports<\/strong> and aquaculture farms<\/strong>. He <\/span>showcased<\/span> the model of the Diver Detection Sonar (DDS)<\/strong> \u2014 a high-frequency active system designed to protect ports, anchored <\/span>vessels<\/span> and maritime infrastructure \u2014 and explained the roadmap for its evolution towards detecting unmanned underwater vehicles, strengthening underwater perimeter security. He also displayed the model of a digital hydrophone (SDH)<\/strong>, the foundation of signature measurement and acoustic environment monitoring systems.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n

As a long-range surveillance solution, he presented Ocean Sentinel<\/strong>, an autonomous system based on smart buoys<\/strong> and a <\/span>remote control<\/span> centre<\/span>, aimed at early threat detection at a distance from the installation. This system was successfully <\/span>validated<\/span> during NATO REPMUS 2025<\/strong> exercises, in collaboration with the Spanish Navy<\/strong>, and is integrated as a complementary layer to the DDS for the protection of ports and critical infrastructure, with applications that can be extended to the aquaculture sector.<\/strong><\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n

SAES\u2019s proposal aligns with its R&D&I lines in marine and port area protection and environmental safeguarding in the marine environment, providing monitoring and deterrence capabilities that reduce operational risks and support sustainable management of facilities. <\/p>\n\n
