The President <\/span>of<\/span> Thales Spain, Jes\u00fas S\u00e1nchez Bargos, and <\/span>the<\/span> Director General<\/span> for<\/span> Defence, Guillermo Rosell\u00f3 Massa, <\/span>visited<\/span> SAES\u2019s<\/span> facilities<\/span> in Cartagena, <\/span>where<\/span> they<\/span> met<\/span> with<\/span> SAES President Jos\u00e9 Javier M\u00e1rmol Pe\u00f1alver and <\/span>the<\/span> company\u2019s<\/span> Management <\/span>Committee<\/span>. The <\/span>delegation<\/span> also<\/span> toured<\/span> SAES\u2019s<\/span> headquarters<\/span> at <\/span>the<\/span> shipyard<\/span> and <\/span>its<\/span> production<\/span> facilities<\/span>, <\/span>gaining<\/span> first-hand<\/span> insight<\/span> into<\/span> the<\/span> progress<\/span> of<\/span> the<\/span> projects<\/span> currently<\/span> being<\/span> developed<\/span> jointly<\/span> by<\/span> the<\/span> two<\/span> companies<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n

The relationship between SAES and the Thales Group dates back to 1992, when Thomson Sintra ASM, now Thales, became a shareholder in the Spanish company. Since then, the two companies have worked together on landmark programmes involving underwater technologies developed in Spain. The visit provided an opportunity to review the progress of this long-standing collaboration and identify new opportunities for the two companies to work together. <\/p>\n\n

The most recent example is the <\/span><\/span>BMAS sonar system for the F-110 frigates.<\/span><\/span><\/a> The<\/span> contract, signed in December 2019, covers a ten-year period and is worth \u20ac27 million, encompassing the equipment of all five vessels in the series. It included a technology transfer from Thales DMS (Thales Defence Mission Systems), enabling SAES to manufacture, integrate and test in Cartagena a capability that had not previously been available in <\/span>Spain.The<\/span> first<\/span> sonar <\/span>system<\/span> in <\/span>the<\/span> series <\/span>was<\/span> completed<\/span> in May 2025, <\/span>with<\/span> local <\/span>suppliers<\/span> contributing<\/span> to<\/span> the<\/span> provision<\/span> of<\/span> materials<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n

The <\/span>partnership<\/span> also<\/span> includes<\/span><\/span> the<\/span> integration<\/span> of<\/span> Thales\u2019s<\/span> SonoFlash<\/span> sonobuoy<\/span><\/span><\/a> into<\/span> SAES\u2019s<\/span> Sonobuoy<\/span> Acoustic<\/span> Processing <\/span>System<\/span> (SPAS).<\/span><\/span> The <\/span>integration<\/span> was<\/span> confirmed<\/span> at FEINDEF in May 2025 and <\/span>is<\/span> now<\/span> operational<\/span> aboard<\/span> Airbus C295 <\/span>aircraft<\/span>, <\/span>enhancing<\/span> the<\/span> system\u2019s<\/span> anti-submarine<\/span> warfare<\/span> and <\/span>maritime<\/span> surveillance<\/span> capabilities<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n

Jos\u00e9 Javier M\u00e1rmol Pe\u00f1alver, President of SAES, said: \u201cThales has been part of SAES\u2019s history for more than thirty years, and that long-standing relationship has enabled us to develop capabilities here in Spain that previously had to be sourced from abroad. The F-110 programme is a clear example: today, we manufacture a sonar system in Cartagena, working with Spanish suppliers, that a decade ago was beyond our reach.\u201d <\/p>\n\n

According to Jes\u00fas S\u00e1nchez Bargos, President of Thales in Spain:\u201cThe long-term collaboration between Thales and SAES reflects our firm commitment to Spain and to strengthening its industrial and technological ecosystem. Through partnerships with Spanish companies with a strong local presence, such as SAES, we contribute to developing strategic technological and industrial capabilities for the country, strengthening its autonomy, competitiveness and preparedness to meet the challenges of the current geopolitical context.\u201d <\/p>\n\n

Both companies reaffirmed their commitment to continuing this cooperation and exploring new opportunities for industrial and technological collaboration in the years ahead. <\/p>\n\n
