The event, held in Cartagena on June 28, was organized by the Commerce Territorial Direction and ICEX in Murcia in order to inform the companies about the details of the Spanish export control system for this kind of products, as well as financial and technical support.
During the meeting, both the Deputy Assistant Director-General of International Commerce of Defense and Dual-Use Material and Deputy Assistant Director-General of Financial Development to Internationalization have exposed the current regulation and how the Spanish government controls the exports of defense and dual-use material. The internationalization of this products and technologies is supported by several programs, such as SUPERCARI, CESCE and FIEM.
After the institutional speeches, a colloquium among defence companies was scheduled. Antonio Cordero, SAES General Director, has explained the strategy that SAES has developed for introducing to international markets as well as the most usual issues.
SAES business started in order to meet the needs that the Spanish Navy had in relation to submarine technology and underwater acoustics. Nowadays, the exports are more than the 80% of the sales of the company.
“Only SAES develops that kind of technology in Spain, which is highly appreciated in the international market, which we compete with a limited number of companies, bigger than us, and strongly supported by their governments,” said the general director of the company.
Mr. Cordero focused on the importance of the Spanish government efforts on legislation and other initiatives that can support the Spanish companies in order to increase the contracts and be more competitive. Also, the innovation was pointed out as a way to provide customers with new solutions.
SAES is a company specialized in underwater acoustics and electronics that develops high-technology systems like sonars for 28 years and has been involved in important programs such as the Spanish Mine-hunter, Spanish S-80 submarines and Swedish Visby corvettes. Their most recent contract was two Diver Detection Sonars, DDS-03, for the protection of ships against underwater threats in Kazakhstan.
