Currently, the impact of underwater noise on marine fauna and flora is an area of great interest, especially in the European Union after the publication of the Framework Directive in 2008. The study of the impact generated by underwater noise involves the development of different disciplines including acoustics, biology, physics, signal processing, etc.
The objective of this paper is to detail the necessary concepts for the implementation of an impact assessment methodology consisting of risk analysis based on the emitter-propagation-receiver model, delving into each of these elements of the model using published studies. in order to provide a knowledge base to address pollution and impact studies generated by underwater noise.
